The attention of the Alumni Association of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai has been drawn to some misleading publications in some national dailies and the social media regarding the issue of school fees and other matters.
While the Alumni does not intend to join issues with anyone, it is nonetheless important to provide the correct information to all stakeholders and the general public.
We would therefore, wish to make the following clarifications:
IBB University, Lapai has maintained virtually the same school fees since inception ten years ago.  Returning students pay N 27, 000:00 while new students’ pay N52,000:00. These fees are still one of the lowests among state universities in Nigeria. In fact many state universities even within the North Central zone charge about N 100,000:00 for indigenes and about N 200,000:00 for non-indigenes.
The issues leading to the mischievous publications are:
i. Accommodation which used to be N 7,000:00 is now N12, 000:00 per   year
ii. The acceptance fee for newly admitted students’ is reviewed from     N3, 000:00 to N 10, 000:00
IBB University, unlike other states universities in the country, does not charge discriminatory fees between indigenes and non-indigenes. All students’ pay the same amount irrespective of their states of origin. They enjoy all available facilities without any discrimination.
We are aware that the university does its best in providing alternative power to hostels both in the day time and at night when power from the national grid is not available
We are witnesses to the fact that the university tries to involve all relevant stakeholders in decision making, including the Students’ Union Government.
We are also privy to the fact that the University and the Students’ representatives met in this particular case and arrived at a congruity.
The Alumni Association wishes to reiterate its determination to work towards the objectives of founding fathers of IBBUL. As a young Alumni Association, we are committed to working with the university and all stakeholders towards creating a conducive, crisis-free and affordable learning environment in our Alma-mata. The overall genuine interests of the university, its good students’ both former and present are topmost in our priority.
