Among these aspirants, many were virtually unknown or least known and simply came into political prominence through the incumbent governor Danjuma Goje, who moulded them into political respectability and acceptability. In this onerous process, where the governor took everybody along, it is an unarguable fact that some among them enjoyed full government patronage through award of very juicy contracts to their companies and nobody complained. Of significance and for posterity, the name Dankwambo will continue to be resonant in different facets of human endeavour and to a larger extent qualifies him for any elective or public office in any civilized democracy, given his antecedents and can as well fit into the shoes of the incumbent governor, whose very successful tenure comes to an end this May, 2011
The simple fact is that many of the aspirants who cried foul in the way and manner the Gombe State PDP governorship primaries was conducted and to further assert that the whole exercise was manipulated are only shying away from the reality of their defeat. We are now in an era of clear political awareness, where a person is considered eligible for political representation through his various philanthropic and humanitarian contributions to his community and the society at large and here, we will concede the fact that Dankwambo is far ahead. Many achievements of Ibrahim Dankwambo that are noteworthy and to a larger extent translated into an edifice of great legacies and will remain indelible. Amongst one of these is the “Treasury House”. A very magnificent building at the very heart of the Federal Capital, Abuja that seats the offices of the Accountant General of the Federation, which he orchestrated, influenced and ensured its completion during his tenure. The Federal Pay Offices in all the states of the federation came into being as a result of Dankwambo’s admirable sense of innovation, because this way, all payments and other transactions can be made easier, thereby reducing the exigencies of strenuous journeys and hazards experienced on the way to Abuja, therefore bringing government and other services closer to the people.
For any person to have claimed the presence of “Kalare” in ensuring that nobody talks ill on the conduct of the last PDP governorship primaries is a gross anomaly, because those of us who witnessed the exercise saw nothing wrong as what took place was a portrayal of democracy and its decorum, because delegates at the venue were given full privilege of voting for their candidates without being threatened or as others claimed, the power of incumbency used unnecessarily.
It is advisable that we always take our defeats as good political sportsmen. Many still accused the governor of imposing the present Gombe Local Government Council chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo Waziri on the delegates at the primaries for the ticket of the Federal House of Representatives for the Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Federal Constituency. If we go by record of achievements, the Gombe council chairman has performed marvelously, especially when he was the president of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), where despite his young age and enormous responsibility of the job, he performed creditably.
The issue here is that we cannot all be winners in a single play. The best must surely come out tops and this is where Ibrahim Dankwambo had an edge over his opponents in the primaries.
