The attention of Senator Mohammed Sabo Nakudu, APC, South West, Jigawa and House of Representatives member, Yuguda Hassan Kila, has been drawn to the above titled story Daily Trust publication of Wednesday, November 2, 2016, citing the ‘N200m Gwaram power sub-station project in Jigawa state, approved by ex- president Goodluck Jonathan in 2014’.
The publication is unfounded and lacking the correct facts.
In this regard, asserting that the Gwaram project is being stalled due to “intrigues”, and alleging complicity by Senator Mohammed Sabo Nakudu and Yuguda Hassan Kila, as claimed by a group, Concerned Citizens of Gwaram under the auspices of Gwaram-Abuja Residents Association led by its Chairman, Hamza Mohammed is quite erroneous. In that sense we deem it necessary and critical to set the record straight.
The association said “execution of the Gagarawa power project had commenced even though it was approved alongside the Gwaram project, while execution of Gwaram project is being stalled due to “intrigues”
The group feared the project may be diverted to another community.
However, it is paramount to state, that the representatives, Senator Mohammed Sabo Nakudu and Hon. Yuguda Hassan Kila are there to serve the people of Jigawa state and would never leave any stone unturned in enhancing welfare of the people and the communities.
But the fact remains that contrary to speculation, subsequent execution of Gagarawa project after approval was stalled due to unavailable funding while the proposed Gwaram 132KV sub-station site has not been provided yet, and no pre-feasibility study carried out even though it has now appeared in the Y2016 budget.
We therefore like to provide more information to refute the allegations and negative perception of Gwaram- Abuja Residents Association, that: One, Jigawa state has quite significant number of Solar power proposals from reputable global organisations/leaders in the renewable energy sector that are subject to improvement in critical transmission infrastructure; two, to resolve this problem, Jigawa Governor, Muhammad Badaru, collaborated with its representatives in the National Assembly for Federal intervention and initial proposals were made in the TCN Y2016 proposed budgets to fund the construction of 132KV sub-station at Gwaram (N300m) and Gagarawa 2×60MVA 132/33kv sub-station N450M all in Jigawa state; three, unfortunately, the final approved Y2016 budget only captured the construction of 132kv sub-station of Gwaram for N300M; Four, Governor Badaru, through the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing therefore pleaded with the Federal Government to co-fund the Gagarawa 2×60MVA 132/33KV. And enjoined the Minister to initiate the virement of the N300m meant for Gwaram in the budget for the completion of the 2×60MVA 132/33 Gagarawa sub-station through the process of budget variation to the National Assembly.
As representatives, we offer this explanation to our people to clear the misconception and to assure them that their progress is our top priority.
