Re: Kano: Buhari, Kwankwaso and politics of imposition

First of all, the apparently confused Jalil said that Buhari helped Kwankwaso grab the APC structure in Kano from Malam Ibrahim Shekarau. To counter his claims, immediately after the formation of APC as a party, the big shots there resolved to woo the then PDP governors at their doorsteps, taking the advantage of the faction then existing in the PDP. Politics is all about give and take, and so the APC as a whole promised to offer the control of party structure to any governor that joined the party, and Malam Shekarau was signatory to that.
In his effort to dent the cordial relationship between Kwankwaso and Buhari, Jalil ignorantly based his argument on the former eyeing same presidential seat with the later. Jalil should know that it is not an offence to contest for any political office, rather exercising a right which is written in both party and Nigerian constitutions.
Also, he should know that, even the General says that APC boasts qualified presidential aspirants, and he was ready to support whoever emerged as the party’s flag bearer from the forthcoming primaries.
The writer also brands Kwankwaso as an imposter, ignoring the fact that the manner of how the previous primaries were conducted was still fresh in our mind, whereby those perceived to be anointed by him were defeated, and the winners were given the needed support to victory. Even in the 2003 governorship election, Kwankwaso was defeated not as a result of imposition of candidates, but due to the wind of change which so often blows to negative direction.
Contrary to his clams that the governor barred members of his cabinet or political office holders from associating themselves with Buhari, right from his second coming, Kwankwaso appointed Buhari’s diehard supporter, now gubernatorial aspirant in APC, as one of his aides.
Since he joined the progressives’ party, the governor has given a lion share to the legacy party members; during the formation of Kano APC caretaker committee, members of legacy party were given chairmanship and other strategic positions.
