Re: Katsina PDP: Why late Yar’adua’s close associates are defecting to APC

Either due to ignorance, mischief, or need to satisfy some vested interest, the reporter had attempted to justify his headline, but failed completely in the process. The reporter had made a promise, by his headline, to show why so-called close associates of late Umaru Musa Yar’adua (of blessed memory) are defecting to the newly registered All Progressives Congress (APC).
But instead of supplying reasonable evidence of this hyperbolic claim, the reporter, ab initio shot himself in the foot by personally discrediting his own sources and making nonesense of his claims.
Somewhere in his eighth  paragraph, the reporter confessed thus: “While these men (presumed Yar’adua associates) are yet to make formal announcements of their defection from the ruling party, some of them have, however, revealed it to their supporters who in turn spoke to newsmen about it.”
It is safe to presume that many sensible readers of this curiously self-defeating report probably stopped reading the story at this point; and many more would wonder why the reporter was in such a hurry to report what, by his own admission was yet to happen; and even more curious was why he couldn’t take the trouble to confirm the “rumour,” either from the affected persons directly or through the two political parties (PDP and APC) in question. Instead, he hinged his entire narrative on an insignificant political aide. It was on this shaky premise that the reporter went on to build his layers of false, unsubstantiated and even mischievous allegations about a yet-to-take place defections, silly accusations of marginalization of one zone by another and accusations of favoritism against the state administration of Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Shema.
From the report, it was clear that the most important political figure that the reporter cited as leading the potential defectors is Ambassador Abdullahi Garba Aminchi, a former deputy governor in the state. But curiously, there is nowhere the reporter quoted Aminchi as saying that he had defected or was even planning to do so, beyond quoting a certain aide of Aminchi’s.
With due respect to the contributions of Ambassador Aminchi to the political developments of Katsina State, what is his actual electoral value in the present dispensation of the state chapter of the PDP? Katsina people know only too well that the PDP in the state continues to thrive in spite of, not because of, the activities of disgruntled politicians like Abba Sayyadi Rumah.
On his part, Governor Shema has continued to confound his opponents with success after success by the special grace of God, Who endowed him with the requisite wisdom to run the affairs of the state with fairness, equity, transparency, hard work and inclusiveness.
Again the reporter mentioned the issue of lack of spread of federal political appointments, claiming, wickedly and falsely that the state administration favours the Katsina Central Senatorial Zone above the other two zones, namely Daura and Funtua.
I am from Funtua zone and I know with absolute certainty that this is not true. Here is a simple statistics: The two ambassadors representing Katsina in the persons of Ambassador Tukur Mani (Nigeria’s Ambassador to Iran) and Ambassador Babangida Adamu (Nigeria’s Ambassador to Guinea Conkry) are both from Funtua zone; the DG of SMEDAN, Bature Umar Masari is from Funtua zone; the commissioner representing Katsina at the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission, Alhaji Lawal Inde is from Funtua zone; the commissioner representing Katsina State at INEC is from Funtua zone. The Special Assistant to the President from Katsina State, Dr Asma’u Tsiga, is from Funtua zone. This is just a sample.
Surely, if there is still disunity in the PDP in a Katsina, it is more an indictment of the Aminchi Committee than of anybody else?
Finally, it is important to point out that even the claim that the people purported to be ‘defecting’ from the PDP in Katsina State are the political associates of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua is absolute falsehood. At best, one may say that those people used to be Yar’adua associates, but most of them have since changed loyalties right after his death.
