We refer to the report on pages 29 and 30 in Daily Trust of 3rd October, 2018 which claimed that the Kuje-Gwagwalada road project was abandoned, and wish to state that the project is still ongoing as the FCT Administration is committed to ensuring that projects all across the Federal Capital are dully completed.

Presently the contractor handling the project Messrs Teleview International Nig. Ltd is working on drainage along Gwagwalada axis to Chikuku village and is proceeding towards the Kuje axis of the project.

The Coordinator of the FCT Department of Satellite Towns Development (STDD), Honourable Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, wishes to indicate that the contractor is only waiting for the rains to subside for him to continue with the portion left between Kiyi and Chukuku villages. Provision of a trapezoidal lined drain was not originally included in the scope of works, however, it was incorporated after the ministerial visit last year about 3.2km construction of trapezoidal lined drain was introduced in the built-up areas (Kiyi village, Chikuku vilage and d Gwagwalada axis of the project).

In addition to the above, of the 3.2km construction of trapezoidal lined drain incorporated after the ministerial visit, about 2km has been completed(1km on Gwagwalada axis and 1km within  Chikuku village only 1 kilometre is left and will be done soon.

The coordinator also wishes to clarify that there is no bridge on the road as claimed but only a pipe culvert (900mm diameter double cell) that was threatened because of the heavy down pour witnessed last month as well as the human activities at the upstream resulting in blockage and overflow of the culvert.

However, the contractor’s attention was immediately drawn to the problem and remedial works was carried out pending when the execution of works will reach there as soon as the rains subside.

The Coordinator wishes to reiterate that the project has not been completed, but the satisfied 54 percent work done has been paid to the contractor.

Yamawo also wishes to intimate the general public that the project has not in any way been abandoned, but enjoin residents to be patient with the FCT Administration.
