While I commend the writer Mustapha Aminu Yusuf in the Daily Trust of Monday, October 10, 2016, page 44 on the implications of the complex nature of malaria fever. The writer however only tries to dwell on treatment and the efficacy of drugs used. No doubt once malaria strikes the next thing that follows is to go for treatment to remove the ailment.
However like many tropical disease in this part of the world the root causes of that disease is not, or never given even minimal attention, so that collectively the problems of diseases burden could be reduced. Recently and ongoing, Governments in partnership with various development Agencies and partners mounted intensive campaign on the use of long lasting insecticides  bed nets (LLITN) but the behavioral dimension on the consistent use of  (LLITN) is still with us. Side-by-side with Environmental sanitation, putting in comprehensive efforts to ensure that all the factors that encourage the breeding of mosquitoes and the other insect vectors are tackled.
Government can do better if more emphasis is laid on Environmental sanitation to clear those foul surroundings, bushes, blocked, drainages with water, stagnant waters that breed mosquitoes etc.
Our budget on health could also be reduced and such monies can be use to deliver other essential social, services by Government. A word is enough for the wise, prevention is better and cheaper that cure!
