The letter to the editor, published on page 43 of Daily Trust on February 2, 2017 and written by Halilu Hassan, was very apt.

I have observed that some Nigerian academics try to blackmail the government through strikes. Most times they down tools, not because of poor funding, equipment or infrastructure, but for selfish reasons. It appears some of them are now competing with politicians. Presently, I don’t think our lecturers are doing badly, so I urge them to forget about embarking on strike and join hands with the government to move the country forward. The only way they can do that is by contributing their quota through educating the youth.
