The letter written by Mr.Oyelakin Saheed about the above title seems to be putting too much blame on the Nigerian Diaspora.
We have to bear in mind that people go about with the cultures, education and home upbringing they got. We have three types of Nigerians in Diaspora:
- 1. Those who travel abroad in seek of knowledge, some do stay behind. These are very educated elites who in most cases do Nigeria proud.
- 2. Those who left Nigeria after graduating from our Universities and mostly after SAP of IBB that eliminated the Nigerian middle class.
- 3. The third group are those who are neither prepared for life here nor there. Most of the inmates if foreign prisons come from this category. These groups in Europe, America and Asia form the smallest figure, but create a real negative impression.
Most Nigerians who have penetrated, adjusted and are really competitive with their counterparts in their various home communities are those who studied there. Some of us are lecturers, professionals, medical doctors, engineers, businessmen and politicians.
The media in Nigeria is very lazy, hence it does not do investigative report on our people outside. Except what others wrote about Nigerian criminals are being copied.
We have to reorganize, reeducate and reform our youth so that the Nigerian Diaspora will be nice like the first group. We cannot expect ours to behave better abroad, when criminals, looters, cultists and corrupt people forms the elites. When thieves are being crowned as Chiefs.
..A society where the richest are ex soldiers, public servants and their cronies.
