Nuhu Ribadu has not fallen. All appointments are made to serve the nation and not regional interest. All presidents of Southern extraction since 1999 appoint northerners as NSA. Buhari and Yar’Adua did not appoint southerners as NSA. It shows trust. Security matters should not be politicised. Anyways, I understand your write-up is paid for to set Northern voters against President Tinubu. It will not work Insha-Allah.

Sir, RIBADU only came for hatchet job. That is, to shut-down former President Obasanjo or get him locked up should he be a critique of Tinubu’s negative policies. But trust the old fox he got the message and mellowed down. If Ribadu had arrested Obasanjo on trumped-up charges, Tinubu would have been hailed. Also, recall the Abeokuta show-case where the two masters met. Do you still think there is any need for a Ribadu or does he fit in the security architecture of the country?

Your article on “Northern Lessons from the Fall of Nuhu Ribadu” has two major flaws. One, it is too northern-centric. Two, its factual and philosophical assumptions are wrong. Contrary to your assumptions, Ribadu did not make fundamental mistakes in office, did not misread Tinubu ‘s political instinct, and never sought or undermined Shettima’s office. Tinubu decided by himself that he wanted Ribadu to succeed him as President. Kashim Shettima did not undermine or do anything wrong. Kashim Shettima has been very loyal to Tinubu. The simple truth is: Tinubu simply wants Ribadu as successor.

The recent appointment of an Adviser on Homeland Security was not made to undermine Ribadu. It was made to pave the way to a smooth transition to a new National Security Adviser, when Ribadu is announced as the new Vice President. No matter what any ill-informed media pundit may pontificate, one thing is clear: both Ribadu and Kashim Shettima did not do anything wrong. What we are seeing is the implementation of Tinubu ‘s personal political decision.

I read with interest the Part 2 of your article on Nuhu Ribadu’s downfall. It is truly a remarkable analysis which lays bare the vicious game of thrones in Nigeria. Tinubu is obviously playing a zero-sum ethnocentric politics as you’ve observed, but many people would also say that late former President Muhammad Buhari laid the precedent for what Tinubu is currently doing regarding appointments. As-Salam Alaikum. A very good morning to you this morning. I just read your piece about the “Fall of Nuhu Ribadu” in the Vanguard newspaper. It is very educative! It is so unfortunate that our people are so blinded by politics and political positions that they simply cannot see the North before they see themselves! What a sad time we live in!

“Secondly, I argued that Ribadu had not studied or understood enough the precipitous nature of the office he still nominally occupies, but practically and politically no longer does. Over time, the position of National Security Adviser has evolved to become one of the most powerful but also most unpredictable offices in Nigerian politics and governance. Had Ribadu fully taken the import of this chequered history of the office into consideration, I said, his approach to the job might have been different, and he probably would have avoided plenty of the unforced errors that eventually combined to strip him of his power”.

This here is a big problem when people who are haughty are given positions! He feels he knows it all and can do as he pleases. I have heard of many unsavoury things within this government that should not have happened when people work together as one. It’s sad, but gaskiya I’ll hope to meet with you sometime and discuss much more about the dangerous cliff that northern politicians have taken our values and political capital to in recent years.
