Well, politics, they say, is indeed, unpredictable. That is why those who analyse it would warn that nobody should come to any conclusion until the last word has been spoken or action taken on any political development. Alhaji Sule Lamido is one of the most experienced politicians in Nigeria, and is arguably the most successful of the state governors that held sway in Jigawa State since its creation in 1991. So he is well equipped to seek the nation’s highest political office.
Usman may be correct on his opinion that Lamido stood firmly for Jonathan to contest in 2011. Even in various interviews granted by Lamido, he did not at all for once deviate from his stand on Jonathan’s candidacy of 2011. In Daily Trust of Thursday, December 23, 2010 page 4, Lamido was quoted as saying “Yes, we resolved as a party to uphold our victory of 2007 by further supporting the Goodluck ticket in 2011. He is our own and we can’t disown him, if anyone feels he has a candidate, let it be, but we in PDP, our own is Goodluck’’
May be Usman has a short memory or is ignorant of Lamido political participation, internal democracy, rule of law and his principles of nationality. If not that, he would have not accused him of supporting Jonathan in 2011. He has been consistent too. He supported a Hausa/Fulani man, Malam Aminu Kano of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in 1979. Lamido supported an Igbo man, Chief Nmadi Azikwe of Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) in 1983 to be Nigerian president. He supported Olu Falae a Yoruba man to be Nigerian president under Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1993. Lamido also supported Chief Olusegiun Obasanjo under People Democratic Party (P.D.P) in 1999 and 2003. Lamido also supported the Late Yar’adua in 2007. So, what was wrong in him supporting Jonathan in 2011?
Lamido has dined, but not wined, with the high and mighty all over the world. There is nothing he has not seen. He will keep on working for Nigeria to become efficient and great. These are some of the culture he imbibed, learnt from the Late Malam Aminu Kano and he is not going to depart from it.”
Lamido should be given a breathing space. Let him be. All these sponsored articles will not deter him from the good things he has been doing. Sule Lamido has made a lot of sacrifices for this country, Nigeria. His contributions have re-united and re-awakened Nigeria. And his agitation for change is because the present administration from above has disappointed them as a party.
