Malam Garba, in whatever guise he might want to raise his argument, is certainly playing a script written by a failed ideology of a very few disgruntled political elements with no voters to hold on to, in spite of their archaic and spent energy in fighting a true idealist, realising for the first time in our political landscape a religiously followed political idealism to the utter embarrassment of the very frustrated political landlords.
The Agama lizard adage is well accepted, at least the red-headed Agama lizard had the courage and strength to fall and nod itself, unlike the partially-blind Agama Lizard that is still hanging on that same tree without the courage to land due to its over-bloated belly with betrayal of his people over meagre pots of porridge in posh palaces of the minority ruling class.
Politics has now worn a new toga. Permit me to enlighten the neo-conservatives and political nonentities in Lamurde Local Government Area, that an Igbo man (Hon Ikechukwu Onyenagorom, aka I.K.) contested and won an election to serve as a councillor in Numan without being imposed by anyone, and there is also the case of the popular Hon Binta Garba Massi that served two terms as federal legislator in the House of Representatives from her husband’s state of Kaduna and subsequently gaining another term from her home state of Adamawa.
On the national scene is Governor Ibrahim Shekarau with a proven origin from Biu Local Government Area of Borno State now steering the ship of state in Kano for two terms of eight years with an overwhelming popularity. It is also important to note that the exceptional performance of Shekarau culminated in him being turbaned by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, as the SARDAUNAN Kano.
On the international scene is the son of a Kenyan emigrant Muslim farmer emerging as the President of the United States on a keenly contested election, based purely on issues. In the recent past, the mere thought of such a possibility would have made people shudder in disbelief and hence I find his argument baseless and a cheap political rant of a buffoon bereft of common sense as regards the so-called imposition of Senator Grace Bent.
What imposition was the writer posturing? That the Yoruba people were brought in trailer trucks to vote Grace Folashade Bent? Or that election was not conducted? Please, let’s go down memory lane, dear readers, as we come to terms with history. The late Bwatiye sage, Baba Senator Gaius Gilama, won an unprecedented victory in Obafemi Awolowo’s UPN to clinch the only UPN seat in the North during the second democratic dispensation of 1979, thus, cementing the relationship of our great people with the West politically, hence it never came as a surprise when our own people reached out for Senator Grace Bent in uncertain political times as the 2007 election. Perhaps, the ignorance exhibited by Malam Garba in the overwhelming evidence of voters lined up in a disciplined fashion in the presence of the following personalities; the current member representing the zone, and other retired generals that saw the tallying of the results to an over 70% victory for Grace Bent in the very same Lamurde Town hall that the distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic re-built, and so was the same victory story in the remaining local governments constituting the zone.
Imposition is a political machinery of his master and Godfather, therefore, the said master’s colossal failure in his vain attempt to impose a councillor in his Lamurde LGA ward in which no candidate was presented at the then PDP primaries. Similarly, the undertone of Garba’s argument no doubt shamelessly portrayed him as a frivolous and envious errand boy helplessly hell bent in displaying a blindfolded loyalty to his masters for making him a caretaker Chairman of Lamurde with no visible input to show for such a mandate, apart from the carting away of the usual ‘bagco sacks’ for his mentors to the detriment of his immediate constituents, hence, buttressing the fact that he has been a beneficiary of political imposition as he was shoved down the throats of Lamurde people. The Bwatiye people are free-willed and historically known to be warriors; therefore, imposition doesn’t hold sway with them as they so proved through the election of Goggo.
The senator was, in her magnanimity, able to extend her hand of fellowship in raising the profile of this highly revered Hama Dong’s seated throne from a round hut to an enviable structure, tastefully furnished and electrified with a generating set befitting a royal personality.
Top amongst his constituent is the highly revered kpana rigangun whose abode is an eyesore in spite of him being the second in command to the venerated throne of the Hama Bachama and even acted in times past as the Hama Bachama in the absence of the ruling King. Garba has not been in touch with his people, knowing that he was picked up from Jos (his abode) to act as the then caretaker chairman, resulting to his not knowing that Hama is synonymous with Emir, but left the eyesore abode of Kpana Rigangun to its status.
The peoples’ distinguished Senator, Goggo Grace Bent, has proven herself time and again as an amazingly dependable politician and a pragmatist with her doling of deadly blows to opponents that may see their political careers permanently sealed for good with the show of affections bestowed on her by her over 23 ethnic teeming constituents in the sea of overwhelming evidence of practical projects with a direct impact on the electorate.
Politicians in the zone are beckoned to serve and it is in line with this that the people of Dong Development Association requested Goggo Grace Bent to serve them in her capacity and, I request Malam Garba to find time and apologise to Dong people for sacrilegiously debasing the throne of Hama Dong and its good people’s wisdom in this regard. Hama Bachama and Hama Dong were of the same status since the time of the Native Administration of the colonial masters and that the Hama Dong did lease out land for the settlement of Demsa people. In fact, the two chiefs were to be presented the same staff of office at the time. However, Hama Dong rejected the move believing that it would conflict with his own traditional powers which was therefore given to the Hama Batta.
