All that he said in the piece went on to further buttress the popular Ndigbo adage I came across in most Chinua Achebe writing “let the eagle perch and let the kite perch and who ever says no to the other may its wing break”.
If the break up is always proposed as a tool for political blackmail giving that the north is seen in the eyes of some as a scavenger because we lack oil, so be it. We will live with our hot sun, our cows, our goats, our camels, our donkeys, our tomatoes, our onions, our fish, our yams, our potatoes, our sweet melons, our corn…or did I hear you say donkeys, horses and even bats…but northerners don’t eat these last three; so who does?
So let the eagle perch and let the kite perch….and just as Achebe is fondly remembered, The famous Hausa musician Alhaji Mamman Shata Katsina of blessed memory when he said “Uwar Rago a ka yi wa jaje, ga danki chan an bar shi a baya” meaning one can only sympathize with the mother of a weakling and lazy child who is always left behind.
