However, the title did not suggest it has anything to do with current political development in Nigeria, especially in the National Assembly. I started reading immediately while on transit to my office. On reaching the office, only writing down my name on the attendance register took my eyes off the page. As is tradition, regardless of the content of the dailies, my first read are usually Jega’spage on Mondays* and Adamu Adamu on Fridays. Everything else is secondary!
My interest in responding to your writing is twofold – one- that I had to share my mother’s dying moments with a friend a night before, which naturally reminded me of the discussion the night before. And secondly, an Adamu Adamu write-up is always a delight as it covers all areas of human endeavor.
I was particularly touched by your choice of words, which communicated deep meaning and understanding of the value of mothers in our lives. I was so touched that I didn’t realize I was in tears until it began to drop on the paper before me. It was tears of joy, love and appreciation of the gift of motherhood in one’s live.
It was a lesson of motherhood from another point of view. The eloquence was so rich that every line conveyed a message on the essence of motherhood and how much we should appreciate same. It is a message that needs repeating because of its significance in the life of every being. It is a tonic for those who always remember their mothers and, a reminder for those who may not appreciate them. It is a message to those whose mothers are still alive to love and care for them, and for those who have lost them to always beseech the blessing of Allah on their souls. In the end, there is a lesson for everyone.
I conclude by saying to Adamu Adamu ameen to your well articulated prayer in the last paragraph. It cannot be said better than this. May Allah continue to bless Baaba as she ages gracefully, Ameen.
