It rekindles glimmers of hope that out of the cacophony of charlatans, hangers-on and sycophants, whose selfish actions and inactions around corridors of power at both state and federal levels tend to choke our beleaguered country, there are some conscientious fellows across the length and breadth of Nigeria that are thinking in a more rational way.
The whole gamut of the write-up emphasizes the inappropriateness of using state coercive agents in settling political differences. To Mr Mnenga, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mbu Joseph Mbu’s flagrant abuse of state power in the way he sides with one political group against another in the state clearly negates the basic tenets guiding security conduct anywhere in the world.
On that and many more, I share in Mnenga’s sentiment.  But I beg to disagree with the last paragraph where he tries to compare Kano with Maiduguri in terms of insecurity, asserting, ‘CP Mbu should be posted to Maiduguri, Kano or any of the state taken over by Boko Haram Haram’.  No statement can be more unjustified given the relative peace that prevails in Kano.  I believe Mnenga made this statement out of ignorance of the true situation obtaining in the ancient city today.
And Frankly speaking, the issue of insecurity in Kano is more a matter of perception than fact. And in this, the media is partly to blame for sensationalism, because of all the places in the North grappling with insurgency, nowhere has the security agents received fullest cooperation more than Kano and the result can be seen and verified in the way peace has been restored back to the commercial nerve centre of the north.
Unlike politicians in Maiduguri, Kano political gladiators have so far shown greater maturity in the way they handle their affairs and differences and that has greatly helped.    
It’s unfortunate that such deliberate piece of misinformation more often than not tends to send a wrong signal to any would be investor or businessman, given the tendency to wrongly form an opinion which may inadvertently lead to loss of investment.  
Kano is peaceful and anybody wishing to visit the state for one business undertaking or another should do so without entertaining any fear.
