When my eyes caught this story, a common Hausa adage that says “in bera da sata daddawa ma da wari,” instantly came to my mind. To my comprehension of the story, it is a battle of wits. Honestly it will be very difficult to declare both the lawmaker and the Senior Inspector of Prisons innocent or guilty because they were both exercising clouts. While madam proved she was a lawmaker, the inspector proved he was loyal to his boss and would not tolerate nonsense. A lawmaker in Nigeria feels he is above the law while the man in uniform equally feels he has all the powers to do and undo especially when on a convoy. Even the Road Transport Worker in his uniform looks at himself as an authority to challenge passengers and drivers alike. Suffice it to say here that if in the end the CG came out with the findings that his officer, Mr Dan Odeh is guilty, dismissal should never be thought of for just two reasons. One, the officer would have been seen as inactive when expected to act. Secondly, if Mrs Mrakpor was just an ordinary citizen, nothing would have been heard of it. The two are both guilty if I am given the opportunity to judge this case. The conclusion to this matter should be: no winner, no loser.
