My dear Chief Segun Odegbami I agreed to differ with you and your colleagues in the Glass House. The sooner we Nigerians try to understand world politics and international sports with all the political trades and undertones the better it is going to be for us. For all our FIFA World Cup events Nigeria is always placed in the group of death not by accident but rather by plans made by those who have something to lose should we progress.
All the matches in the World Cup where African teams were cheated through referees, the authors are Europeans. They are not going to make anything easier for us. We stupidly keep on hiring European coaches, instead of training our retired international footballers and or employ a Latino just like Japan and South Korea. Remember ClemensWesterhorf did not follow our players back to Nigeria after what he did in USA in 1994? He was responsible for our defeat when he removed our striking forces when we were leading with only one goal and when it was equalized, we lacked the energy and experience to do it again. He acted against his own saying that you do not change a winning team.
Another thing is that the Glass House has a slave mentality of going to the master (London) to prove to themselves that yes we are in charge. The only bad thing about our players going to Europe for friendlies is that it takes a lot of time and money and it doesn’t give our players enough time for teamwork. Again we waste a lot of money to allow our enemies (sports is a civilized way of warfare) to study us at zero costs. It’s a lot cheaper for them to play with local clubs and teams, African countries and even with our female team. After all what’s in need is for the players to understand each other and workout game plans and various strategies.
All Nigerians are with you and all of us are proud of you.
Therefore all you need to do is to make sure we are respected worldwide by winning and planning ahead. No more fire brigade work. Let’s change this stupid mentality and start planning right away. Nothing unites Nigerians more than football, simply because nothing works for us collectively more than football. The government has a big role to play. Let us learn from the best sporting nations (United States, Russia, Germany and France). These countries don’t have Sports Ministry, but rather sport commission like in US, or as a dependent under education in Japan, Korea, Germany or Youth Development like in Russia and France. The money wasted in running a ministry can be utilized in sponsorship and training, maintaining facilities and the media.
