I strongly disagree with your columnist, Wole Olaoye on his piece titled:  ‘Sack Dalung now’. The piece was published yesterday, Monday, 15th August, 2016.
The first shocker is the title “Sack Dalung now”, I never thought in my wildest imagination that a professional columnist like Uncle Wole Olaoye would poorly developed a topic of this low quality. It is very pedestrian, and it stinks of disrespect to the office of the man under attack, in fact it shows like a personal hatred, as if Wole has a score to settle with the honourable Minister. By my upbringing, it is uncharitable to point blank use the word “sack “ even against a wheelbarrow pusher much less of a minister.
It is flabbergasting that the writer should even join issues with pedestrian commentators and other sponsored hawks in the frenzy of “Dalung Must Go”. This is because Wole is a columnist of caliber; most of his analyses on issues are not only deep, incisive but also objective, devoid of the usual sentiments but this time around he failed to meet the minimum standard of his profession.
This is the silliest joke I have ever read in our national daily, that just by wearing a red-beret, one is corrupting the youth. Wole knows well that there is no any significant relationship between wearing red beret and general indiscipline and immorality that is so pervasive among the Nigerian youth or even the whole Nigerian society, but I don’t understand why Wole and his quoted jokers are trying to show that wearing red beret signifies incompetency. Is this science or logic?
In his futile desperate attempt   to justify why the minister Solomon Dalung is incompetent, Wole exposed his shallow knowledge about the scope, limitation and delimitation of the powers and functions of Sports Ministry with regards to Olympics. He probably expected Dalung to hijack the role of National Olympic Commission or the NFF. These are two major agencies that claim to be autonomous of the ministry or the minister of sports , and without elaborating their functions and power, Wole Olaoye  cannot conclude whether Dalung is competent or not.
Wole, even went ahead to stress that if the president cannot sack Dalung, then he should transfer him to ministry of special duties. This is also uncharitable. If Wole is not aware of why president Buhari appointed Barrister Solomon Dalung as the minister, we the youth know. We know the significant role Dalung played in the promotion of unity among Nigerian youth, peace and national integration.
Finally, Wole and other jokers who are calling for the sack of the Minister of Youth and Sport know that sacking doesn’t solve any problem. Sacking itself is a problem. Just by mere sacking a minister will not end challenges of that ministry dramatically and overnight. It takes time to fix sport in Nigeria, and calling for sacking is just a woeful digression from the real problem.
