The Adamawa South Senatorial elections has not been conducted yet, why would Yedimakudon be quick to rush to press with the primary results of the PDP that was nationally acknowledged to have been orchestrated and stage-managed through sheer intimidation, death threats and loss of jobs, if the self-appointed delegates of Hon. Ahmed Barata and Hon. Felix Tangwami steer off the path hewn out for them by their masters. Besides, the primaries are not the true tests of popularity in an election, keeping in mind that the less than 2,000 delegates appointed by the state PDP executives are a minuscule fraction of the total eligible voters of about a million electorate of the constituency.
Permit me to ask Mr Garba where he was residing when Hon. Ahmed Barata won the primary for his attempted bid to come to the House of Representatives in 2002, but was overwhelmingly defeated at the then general elections even in his own Shelleng LGA and had to muscle his way to become council chairman?
It is obvious that the disgruntled elements would rather the distinguished Senator line their pockets with money rather than heap up constituency projects that have direct impact on the lives of the people, hence, the manipulation of delegates with monies from government vaults just to upstage Senator Grace Bent.
Yedimakudon’s last write up was rubbished to the floor of history by the rejoinder of Homto Vrati from Numan. Please note that Senator Bent is a bonafide daughter of Dong, Demsa LGA, Adamawa State by marriage and has a valid passport, curriculum vitae etc reflecting such.
The masters of the pen profession, the National Union of Journalists, after an exhaustive investigation, bestowed on Senator Grace Bent the most outstanding Senator of the 6th National Assembly on constituency projects and oversight functions in November at Sheraton?
And knowing how much he failed the people woefully when he was imposed with the acting Chairmanship of Lamurde LGA that turned out to be a monumental disaster, Yedimakudon is in the tenets of leadership; thus, the bitterness expunged from his belly in fighting an already lost battle with the Senator. For the records, please former President Obasanjo did not impose votes in the primary and eventual general elections that overwhelmingly confirmed Senator Grace Bent as the winner, the intelligent people of Adamawa South, through their collective reasoning, deemed it fit to send her to the Senate and have never regretted doing so.
Yedimakudon and his masters are quick to harp on the Yoruba origin of Bent which is well known to the electorate and also well accepted is the fact that she is happily married to their son, her beloved husband with whom she bore children. Where else does she have to call home? The delegates of Numan and Lamurde graciously endorsed her for the second term, as evident in their bulk delegate votes, the only reason that Shelleng, Guyuk and Demsa went astray was because of the undue interference with the local government Exco lists of Guyuk and Shelleng down to the ward levels, the Senator had rejected and called for the reversal of this acrimony done by Hon. Ahmed Barata with the tacit support of a few members of the State Executives; but all fell on deaf ears. The delegates list by Hon. Ahmed Barata and Hon. Felix Tangwami and the subsequent gagging, shoving of monies, motorcycles, the blackmail that their various homes will be razed to the ground if they failed to vote for them. How else would an unpopular candidate as Hon. Ahmed Barata score all delegates votes from Guyuk and Shelleng without a single delegate voting for the other opponents?
Senator Bent was absolutely right in calling for the outright cancellation of the election, knowing that what took place in Numan that day was a show of shame and a national embarrassment to the PDP if accepted. And if the PDP desires to win the popular vote, Bent is the candidate to beat in the general elections as it concerns the zone due to the unrivalled and outstanding constituency projects she had attracted to Adamawa South and the over ten bills and numerous motions brought to the hallowed chambers of the Senate. The PDP National Working Committee must take to cognizance the recognition given to the Senator both at home as Sardauna Senator of the Year 2009 and internationally as Africa’s Legislator of the Year in Paris in 2010.
The sour grape Yedimakudon is bereft of common sense to think that Her Excellency, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to Numan had not been planned months before the Women for Change Initiative. The First Lady carries the weight of the State House wherever she visits, so the state intelligence network must have weighed in on the popularity and acceptability of the Senator before she accepted to show up in the first place.
Hausa speaking people have an adage that says wanda yayi abu mai kyau,ya kamata a yaba masa which translates to anyone who has distinguished self with good works must be praised! The outcome of Hon. Barata has made PDP chances of winning Adamawa South wobbly, just like in 2002 when he forced himself on the people and ended up losing very dismally in the general elections without having an acceptable number even in Shelleng where he hails from. The whole incidence has been unraveled as a grand conspiracy to deny Adamawa South of credible and worthy leadership desirous of emulation.
The PDP executives in the state are abreast with the truth that the party is gradually eroding its acceptability with its sell out tendencies and even the common man on the street is well informed of the winnable candidacy of Senator Bent .She is simply the aspirant to beat!
The whole incidence was a grand conspiracy to deny the people of Adamawa South the dividends of democracy they have enjoyed in the over three years of purposeful representation which a handful of elitist are not disposed to.
My candid advise to Yedimakudon is to patiently wait for the outcome of the senatorial general elections in April, 2011 before hastily concluding on the outcome.
