My attention has been drawn to a publication in the Daily Trust titled “Senators utterances can jeopardize release of Chibok girls”. The publication was given prominence and well promoted in the front page of your Wednesday 19th October edition.
The publication carried a response from “an anonymous source close to the negotiation” and it seeks to counter or berate my role in the effort to secure the release of the Chibok girls.
My first question is why should Daily Trust chose to hide the identity of someone if he actually exist, who chose to counter what I said or dismissed what I said or disclaimed what I said.
In my interview, I mentioned names of people and nations involved and none of the names I mentioned came out to refute what I earlier said. But it was refuted by “someone close to the negotiation”.
It’s unfair and utterly mischievous to give space and even promote a claim made by someone who doesn’t have the courage to permit his name on your paper.
I have no reservation about the experience of the writer of the story but I don’t believe in interviewing Ghosts and promoting them. I welcome reactions from those involved in the negotiation but not from anonymous “sources close to the negotiation”.
As patriots, concern citizens or parents, we have a moral duty to do all we can to support the process that will lead to the release of all the girls in captivity.
Every Nigerian is obliged to make contributions and not demean or degrade the contributions of others. A fair and objective reporting is also a positive contribution.
I’m fully prepared to join issues with anyone actually involved who seeks to refute my statement. But I can join issues with anonymous “someone close to the negotiation”
