I confidently believe in our military’s strength because we are number one and actively participate in international peacekeeping and that was the reason why Nigeria sees itself as the giant of Africa. But Nigeria has failed to showcase good example of good governance.
I have never been to Gwoza in Borno State, but whenever I hear someone say he had just returned from the area, what comes to my mind is that he went to the Mobile Police training camp there, not aware that Gwoza is in ifact a local government like any other, with majority of the inhabitants being farmers. Now that the despicable insurgents have claimed victory over Gwoza and some other places in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria, creating a purported independent state named Islamic caliphate within the Nigerian territory,
I can’t say that the military that I have confidence in has failed us; or that the so-called Boko Haram group have overpowered the strength of the Nigerian military. What’s confusing me is the way the citizens are pointing accusing finger at the government, while the government officials are busy trying to see how they can continue ruling in 2015. Meanwhile the Boko Haram insurgents are busy killing, destroying and gaining more territory. Why are the Northern leaders silent? I thought we can count on them, or are they scared?  What efforts have they been making in restoring peace in the North? I must say the entire North is not safe, because thousands of innocent citizens die and all we hear from them is silence.
I am beginning to have some negative thoughts. We always talk about changing the government; is that truly a solution to the whole calamity that has befallen Nigeria? What if the present government wins the next election, would terrorism end or would it continue?  I got some relief recently when I heard the military declare that its personnel would soon launch military offensive that will end insurgency in the North-East region.  And I pray the civilians, who are already challenged as things are, will not be the victims of that offensive. We are waiting for the military hardware that they need to accomplish their mission and I pray for the unity of this great nation.
