Re: The leader that Yobe State deserves

As concerned Nigerians and followers of the activities of Senator Ahmad Lawan representing Yobe North Senatorial District, we wish to formally react to the above subject matter which can be best described as smearing campaign of calumny. It is evident that it was canvassed by a fifth columnist, sponsored on a destructive mission. While we would not want to join issues with whosoever is behind the campaign, it is pertinent to state categorically that the person behind the scene is ill-informed and at no time live in any part of Yobe North communities as claimed.
For the records, Senator Lawan being a grassroot politician, enjoyed the goodwill of Yobe youths, women, farmers, traders and political leaders and had at no time, bribed his way to secure the confidence and overwhelming support he has been enjoying in his political career. This was evident in his political career, which led to his elevation as a member of the House of Representatives where he served between 1999 and 2007 meritoriously.
In the Senate, Senator Lawan over the years has given out scholarships to over 2,800 students across Yobe Senatorial District. He also facilitated the employment of hundreds of youths from his Senatorial District into Federal Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Parastatals as well as Military and Para-Military agencies, to mention a few.
In the spirit of giving back to the society and in acknowledgement of the overwhelming support enjoyed from his people, Senator Lawan regularly reels out empowerment programmes through his SAIL Youths Empowerment Foundation for his people through donation of grinding machines, sowing machines, wheel barrows, fishing gear, barbing tools, deep freezers, Generators, irrigation machines, among others. This is done on quarterly basis, to be modest.
He spearheaded the campaign against the illegal acquisition of the National Park Dagona, under the Lake Chad National Park which led to the repossession of the land for the teeming Yobe farmers in Bade-Jakusko. In the same year, he single-handedly funded the dredging of the Maruwaji to Bululu at the cost of N300 million.
It is indisputable that some of the sponsors of this campaign are provoked by the existing relationship being enjoyed by Senator Lawan at the highest political levels in the Yobe state and the Federal level. For any discerning mind, the attempts by those behind the scandal, is to sow the seeds of discord within our political system, and further impoverish the people of Yobe who have exhibited great level of trust in the person of Senator Lawan.
We wish to state categorically, that those who never see anything good in the efforts being made by Senator Lawan, are self-seeking or ill informed. We want to use this medium to challenge them to come out with any project or developmental initiatives they’ve embarked on that has impacted on the good people of Yobe North communities or the state in general. Senator Lawan is a trustworthy, credible, transparent, accountable leader and responsive and responsible to his constituents. He invites and welcomes constructive and positive criticisms at all times. After all no human being is perfect.
