Re: The proposed Lake rice by Lagos government

No doubt, the pronouncement that the proposed Lake rice would be sold at N13,000 per 50kg bag in Lagos State was received with joy by Lagosians and the general public. However, the use of local government councils as the channel for the distribution of the product has become a source of worry for the people. They believe that the good intention Governor Akinwunmi Ambode would be thwarted by corrupt officials at the end of the day, thereby making it difficult to get the rice at the government-approved price.

The people also expressed fear that the commodity could be hoarded, and called on the governor to look into the matter. They suggested that the state government should also consider other distribution outlets such as big supermarkets like Shoprite, Addide, departmental stores and open markets scattered all over the state. To this end, it is hoped that Gov Ambode would put in place, machineries that would allay the fears of the people.
