I refer to an opinion article published on Daily Trust of Saturday of September 24th, 2016, by one Nasiru Garba Toro which he illogically suspected Senator Suleiman Nazif, the senator representing Bauchi North Senatorial district, for persistently attacking the personality of the incumbent Bauchi State governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar- the kind of attack he didn’t exactly explain to his readers.
For any Nigerian news reader, one does not need to be told that most of the Bauchi state federal legislatures have been loggerhead with the state governor; specifically on his failure to use the bailout funds given to him on the cause for which the funds were given. For instance the Daily Trust newspaper carried an analysis and interview on the same issue on their publication of August 23 and August 25, 2016 respectively.
Shortly before these, chieftains of the ruling party in the state, such as a former minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Yakubu Lame, Yusuf Maitama Tugga, Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, and majority of the states’ federal lawmakers under the leadership of Speaker Yakubu Dogara took their complain to party’s headquarter in Abuja and thereafter to presidency; on Thursday 18th August, 2016; warning that the governor’s actions might deform the APC’s popularity in the state. Thus it is not, as the writer strongly perceived, the issue of Senator Nazif alone, it is all about his master’s (governor) refusal to settle workers salary in the state up to now, for no single civil servant in the state is not owing salary after collecting about 8.6 billion naira bailout funds. The worst part of it is that the governor has, for more than nine months now, been promising to settle, and nothing has changed.
In his last paragraph Toro asked what has been Senator Nazif’s impact as people representative at National Assembly.  Although Toro is not under Senator Nazif’s constituency, I have this answer for him. Senator Nazif was the president of All Nigeria Youth Federation; member, House of Representatives (2003); Senator for the first time (2007) and Senator again for the second time (2015). He is an upright person who represents the good people of Bauchi North. He and others fought Third Term Agenda and stood for Doctrine of Necessity. He single-handedly brought a new Political Party (AC) to Bauchi State and won election to the Senate. Senator Nazif is on the good side of history and is widely known as a tireless fighter for the masses.
And if the Senator is not making impact to the lives of the people of his constituency, I don’t think they would have wasted their time in voting for him several times.
In short, what Senator Nazif wants is for governor to pay workers in the state their salary completely, so that the people social wellbeing will be better, he also wants the APC- his party and on whose platform he was elected and people always expecting change as it is on their slogan, to maintain its popularity in the state.
