I refer to your paper’s ‘Inside Politics’ edition of Friday, March, 24, 2017, in the news page, featuring Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim, an elder statesman and one of late Aminu Kano’s front line NEPU ideologue. He loudly lamented and expressed his indignation on how governors rule with impunity in the North, and I quote: “Most of the Governors in the North rule their states with impunity  and perform far below their counterparts ,in other parts of the country, what is happening here(in the north)is not done anywhere in the world. Elected officials treat the electorates with impunity, as if they are slaves; they don’t respect the people and the law”, the elder statesman rues in dismay.

What the elder statesman said is a valid depiction that described the current situation in most of the states in the North, so much that democracy is now regarded, by the masses as a curse rather than a blessing. Most of the ordinary citizens despise the system but are powerless to engage their oppressors.

Now, the question is, why do people in the North, allow themselves to suffer these indignities?

Why do some communities allow governors to unilaterally and arbitrarily select and anoint selfish elites and crooks to decide on some sensitive community-related issues; and even by primitive comparison, the medieval monarchs could be rated to have appreciable credibility in optimizing public interest than today’s pretenders and dubious masquerades in power, in some of the Northern States. Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim’s interview has exposed the North in its true colours.

 

There is no better opportunity and time to liberate the North from the tyranny of a misguided clique, raised from the poorest of poor homes and made to benefit from the bounties and fortune of the public, to ascend their new height of power, which they now use to ruin many lives, they are supposed to uplift, in appreciation. The time has come to undress these Northern masquerades and parasites. Now, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim has raised important issue that deserves the attention of our dormant and monetized conscience, to set targets and revolt against!
