A real estate expert and Chairman of GTEXT Holding, Dr Stephen Akintayo, has advocated a stronger mentorship for young enterprises in the real estate and other critical sectors to enable them to sustain and upscale their businesses.
He made the disclosure in Abuja over the weekend at the Business Growth Conference targeted at mentoring and empowering young entrepreneurs organised by the Stephen Akintayo Foundation.
According to him, aside from capital and grants provided by the foundation to entrepreneurs in real estate and other sectors, they also need business advisory growth and mentorship, hence the need for the conference.
“The conference is to teach business owners in the property sector and other sectors how to upscale and grow. We have seen too many businesses die in Nigeria, largely to, of course, the environment, but that’s not the only reason.
“Most times, it’s because of the quality of knowledge. Most people just start business without any exposure, without any training; they don’t know how business runs. And so we’re bringing around owners of successful businesses to share how they grew their businesses; what are the strategies they’ve deployed,” he explained.
He added that with the changing landscape in real estate and other sectors, mentorship and training is crucial to catch up with current trends.
Also speaking, an entrepreneur, Hansatu Adegbite, noted that entrepreneurs in Nigeria require support at both federal and subnational levels, while calling on state governors to empower business owners in the built sector and other MSMEs to drive economic growth at the grassroots.
