About 228 fire arms and ammunition have been recovered by the Katsina State Police Command from bandits, cattle rustlers, armed robbers and kidnappers.

The Katsina State Police Commissioner Mohammed Wakili, while displaying the weapons at a news conference in Katsina yesterday, said the command will not rest until all illegally acquired arms in the possession of men of the underworld were recovered.

A breakdown showed that 20 AK47 rifles, 10 pistols, 2 G3 rifles, 8 Pump Action rifles, 2 SMG rifles were recovered.

Others are 71 locally made rifles, 80 locally made Dane guns, 5 double barrel guns, 840 ammunitions and 50 magazines. He said the recoveries followed the directives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to police formations. 

The commissioner called on those who have not returned their illegally acquired arms to do so before the expiration of the deadline, adding that ‘it is worthy of note to say that we will continue to fight criminal elements with a renewed vigour.”

Daily Trust reports that the IGP, Ibrahim Idris, had last month directed Commissioners of Police of all State Commands and the Federal Capital Territory to commence the recovery of prohibited firearms in the country.
