The Federal Government has been advised to use the billions of naira recovered from public treasury looters to build six standard and well equipped hospitals in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria to reduce medical tourism among top Nigerians.
A former member of House of Representatives in the Second Republic and Patron of Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Highness, Igwe Simeon Osisi Itodo, the Ezeoha 1 of Essodo kingdom, gave the advice in an interview with Daily Trust in his palace. Essodo kingdom is in Igboeze-North Council Area of Enugu State.
He bemoaned the fact that no week passed without Nigerians going overseas for medical tourism, saying that that countries like India, Cuba, Germany, USA, UK and others have been able to develop their medicine and build state-of-the-art hospitals where people from other nations, especially wealthy Nigerians travel for medical treatment.
He said with strong will power, the Nigerian government could replicate such hospitals in the country and attract foreigners who would come for treatment.
Igwe Itodo explained that the government could name such hospitals “Looters Hospitals” to remind the present Nigerians and even the generations yet unborn that the funds used in establishing such health institutions were recovered from looters of government coffers during the anti-corruption war of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government.
