The Nigerian Red Cross Society with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and partners has distributed relief materials comprising food and non-food items to 130 households affected by flood in Sarkin-Noma area of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
Speaking during the distribution to flood victims at the Sarkin Noma Primary Health Care Centre, Assistant Secretary General of the Nigerian Red Cross in FCT, Barr. Pedro Azuogu said the gesture by the Red Cross and its partners was meant to bring succour to the plights of the flood victims.
Amongst the items distributed include rice, Corn blended with soya milk, beans, vegetable oil, blankets, mats, buckets, mosquito nets and detergents for each household.
He urged its staff in charge of the distribution to ensure all the households earlier captured get the materials due to them.
The Minister of Health Dr Isaac Adewole, who was represented on the occasion by a Director in the ministry, Tim Obot, thanked the Nigerian Red Cross and its partners for their humanitarian supports and emergency first aid services they have been rendering to victims of natural disasters in the country over the years.
Earlier, the Kogi State Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Comrade Dan Usman had assured that all the households earlier captured prior to the distribution would get all the package due to them.
He urged those who weren’t captured to exercise patience till when other opportunities come in the future.
