Rivers United’s leading goalscorer, Ishaq Rafiu Kayode celebrates after scoring a goal
The 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leading scorer, Rafiu Kayode Ishaq, has said that the playing pattern of his side, Rivers United makes it easy for him to score goals.
Ishaq, who has 13 goals with 3 assists so far in the league in an exclusive chat with Daily Trust, however, acknowledged that there are better goal scorers than him.
“Being the leading goal scorer is not an easy thing because there are a lot of players that know how to score more than me.
“However, I have scored 13 goals in 24 matches which is not easy for a player that is playing from the outside right position.
“But what has helped me most is being a team player. I am just looking to be a leading goal scorer because the way we play in Rivers United makes it easy for every player in the team to get a goal,” he said.
He, however, stated that it will not be easy for him to emerge as the league’s top scorer at the end of the season because he has other lethal strikers in the league who are breathing down his neck.
“Gombe United striker, Abdulazeez Yusuf is on 11 goals. My strike partners, Chidi Akuneto has scored 9 goals and Nyima Nwagua who is equally a good striker has five goals in his kitty. They are all fantastic strikers. So to win the Eunisell award, I need to work harder and also believe I can achieve it,” he said.
Ishaq will be looking forward to increasing his goal tally when Rivers United take a trip to Kwara United for the Match Day 26 encounter on Sunday, May 1.
