They said money has not been released to them to fix any roads in both states and so they have had no work to do.
“We come to work every day and sleep till close of work without doing anything. We have been in this condition since December 2013. We are feeling uneasy. How can we collect money and we do not work for it?” a personnel who begged for anonymity told Daily Trust in Calabar.
He said despite several appeals in writing and otherwise there has been no response.
Another staff said following complaints from Cross River State government and leadership of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state, FERMA headquarters wrote two letters in July.
“FRSC in Cross River State has incessantly complained to us of bad roads which has led to several accidents.
“Perhaps in response to their petitions signed by one Mr Albanus Nwachukwu, our headquarters in Abuja directed us to mobilise our staff to fix all the potholes in the state in two different official letters. 
“But are we moving to the bad roads with bare hands? Won’t we hire trucks, buy materials, sands, cement, chippings and so on?  They have been sending letters like that without attendant funds remitted to us,” he said.
Asked how much was usually sent to fix potholes in the state, he said, “N3 million only! How many roads can that fix? What materials can that buy to fix roads in Cross River State?”
