A fire from a refuse dump has destroyed several shops in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The incident occurred weekend at Challenge Area, beside the Nigeria Railway Station.
It was gathered that out of the eight shops located within the vicinity, four were completely burnt by the fire.
A witness, Mr Hammed, said the fire emanated from a nearby burning refuse dump which later got to the affected shops.
Some owners of the affected shops, who sold phone accessories and operated restaurants, lamented the huge loss and solicited for government’s assistance.
The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged residents to always play safe.
He particularly advised the people never to leave refuse burning unmonitored.
