The Federal Controller of Works in Cross River State, Engr. Bassey Nsentip, has disclosed that the ongoing rehabilitation of major federal roads such as the Ogoja-Ikom-Obubra-Yakurr will last at least 20 years before they will need another major repair.

Engr. Nsentip said this in Obubra in the central part of the state when he conducted newsmen on the stretch of the 250-kilometre link road which the Federal Government completed recently.

Nsentip further disclosed that the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, would be in the state to flag off the reconstruction of another part of the road; Akpet I to Odukpani, a stretch of over 75 kilometres.

He said the Federal Government had to urgently fix the two-cell pipe culverts to replace the collapsed Amco pipe at the Iwuru Akamkpa section of the road at a huge cost because of the huge economic importance of the road; which linked the South East and the South South.

“We were also able to carry out emergency work on the Odukpani section of the road; spanning over 50 kilometres which was badly affected by erosion.

“We are happy to say that we have asphalted and rehabilitated more than 250 kilometres of the Ogoja-Ikom-Obubra-Yakurr federal link road. This rehabilitation will last beyond 20 years.”

Nsentip added that the reconstruction was handled by three contractors who worked on different sections.
