Relentless is an engaging and deep story about loneliness, love and self-discovery. The film delicately explores the effects of war and loss as it charts the life of a young Nigerian peacekeeping soldier Obi, who while on assignment in Sierra Leone, meets and falls in love with a local woman.

Meanwhile, films by two of Africa’s foremost filmmakers, the late Ousmane Sembene —“Moolade and Black Girl” and Souleymane Cisse’s “Waiting for Happiness” will headline the segment devoted to a special showcase of African classics.  Other films that will show at the four-day long festival include;  Senegalese filmmaker, Djibril Diop Mambetey’s “Hyenas”,  “Muna Muto” by Cameroon born filmmaker, Jean-Pierre Dikongué-Pipa  and  “Halfouine” by Tunisian filmmaker Ferid Boughedir. The films will be screened after a red carpet and a formal opening ceremony to be presided over by the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi.

According to the AFRIFF programmer, June Giviani, “Participants and visitors to the festival will have the opportunity of seeing some amazing films.” Giviani, an internationally acclaimed film curator, maintained that the choice of films to be screened at this maiden edition of AFRIFF is in line with the vision of the festival which is to create a platform for the world to zoom in on the diversity and creativity of Africa through motion pictures.  As she explained, “the range of films is diverse and beautiful.  These are films that people will really want to watch.”
