Religious clerics to join fight against corruption

Religious leaders in Kaduna have agreed to support the nation’s fight against corruption, saying, the destiny of Nigeria lies in the hands of religious leaders.

The leaders, including imams and pastors, made the resolution at an interfaith forum tagged; ‘Religion as a Tool of Fighting Corruption,’organised by Al-habibiyyah Islamic Society and Mac-Arthur Foundation in Kaduna.

Speaking at the event, the National Chief Imam of Al-habibiyyah Islamic Society, Imam FuadAdeyemi, said the event aimed at attracting religious leaders to join the federal government’s efforts in stamping out corruption.

According to him, “We have seen the efforts of government in the fight against corruption and thought that religious leaders can help in making the fight a successful one because, if religious leaders begin to say no to corruption, people must listen to them.”

Speaking on the theme of the event, Co-Founder, Interfaith Mediation Centre, and a Pastor of Assemblies of God Church, Rev. James Wuyep, said; “We live in an age where people celebrate corruption.

We cannot pretend to be fighting corruption when, for example, we encourage examination miracle centres. That, in itself, is teaching the younger ones corruption.”
