An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a 28-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 20-year-old lady.

Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered that he should be kept at the Kirikiri Prison, Lagos.

The magistrate also directed that the case file should be sent to the state director of public prosecution for advice.

She adjourned the case to July 8, 2019, for mention.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused, Dayo Olawale,  who resides at Eruwen, Ikorodu, Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual assault.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, said the defendant committed the offences on April 22, 2019, at 06:00pm at 66 Asiwaju Crescent, Elepe Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Emuerhi alleged that the defendant conspired with others still at large and sexually assaulted the 20-year-old.

“The defendant sexually assaulted the woman by forcefully having sexual intercourse with her,” he said.

He said the victim reported the case at the Elepe Police Division, adding that the case was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Ikeja Police Command.
