News of the death last week of Senator Ali Wakili, the lawmaker representing Bauchi-South senatorial district at the National Assembly, came to us with great shock. This perhaps is the reason sympathizers and mourners from all walks of life continue to commiserate with the good people of Bauchi State days after his death. And in line with our African and religious tradition, eulogies extolling the virtues of the late senator are all you hear from the lips of sympathizers. 

As a members of his constituency, I wish to also express my deep shock and extend my heartfelt condolence to the government and people of Bauchi State for this irreparable loss. May Aljanna be his final abode.

As we mourn the loss of this vibrant senator, I cannot help but notice the torrents of eulogies from sympathisers and as much as they are all true, I am a bit surprised. This is because while he was alive, his political opponents always worked to pull him down. Senator Wakili, aside his numerous contributions in the Senate, initiated many projects including primary healthcare centres in each of the seven local government areas that make up his senatorial district, built tsangaya schools, constructed motorized boreholes, ensured constant supply of woods to Bauchi graveyards for burial purposes and empowered youths with vocational skills and equipment.

 I think the best way to immortalize Senator Ali Wakili is to ensure the passage of the bill he presented before the Senate a few days to his death, seeking the establishment of a Federal College of Education in Dass, Bauchi State. The bill, if passed into law will cater to the educational needs people of his constituency. May he rest in peace.
