First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday unveiled the National Community Food Bank Programme in the North-East.

The first lady also commissioned some newly constructed projects of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

The First Lady, who flagged off the initiative in Maiduguri, said the target of the programme was to combat acute malnutrition and food insecurity.

“Your Excellencies and guests, it is a great honour and privilege to be here. This will be the first assignment while we are here in Borno State for our children and mothers.

“I have the honour to commission the National Community Food Bank Programme in the North-East to the glory of God,” she said.

She noted that the choice of Borno for unveiling of North East programmes was based on the security challenges facing the state.

“This programme will complement the state government’s effort to improve access to nutritious food especially for women and children.

“I would like to use this opportunity to thank the governor of Borno State, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum for contributing N500 million to the Trust fund of NCFBP, and I also donated the sum of N500 million.”

“It’s designed to ensure that vulnerable children under the age of six, pregnant women and lactating mothers have access to nutritious food, therefore restoring hope where it’s most needed.

“This initiative aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in advancing food security, healthcare and advancing prosperous Nigeria,” she added.

She also challenged governors’ wives across the country to contribute to the trust fund as well, as no amount is too small as mothers.

Earlier speaking, Zulum assured continued support to the initiative through women empowerment and other economic inclusions.

He thanked President Tinubu for the recent approval of N68 billion as operational support and maintenance of the Maiduguri Power Plant to ensure stable electricity supply in Borno.

He also assured that the kind gesture done by the president to Borno State would translate into massive votes im 2027.

The governor took the first lady round, where she commissioned Nursing quarters, which was named after her.

She also flagged off the distribution of sewing machines and grants of N100,000 each, to 2,000 vulnerable women.

Mrs Tinubu also on behalf of the state presented brand new cars to overall teachers, headteacher, principals, coordinators, Education Secretary, Education Director, and a house to a dedicated security man that served the state for 50 years, with a personal donation of N2 million to the security.

She also commissioned the newly constructed Abbaganaram ultramodern Junior and Secondary School in Maiduguri
