There was no miracle for the reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Remo Stars, as they suffered another 0-2 defeat to South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns yesterday to finally exit this year’s CAF Champions League.

It will be recalled that last week, Remo Stars fell 1-5 to the former African champions in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF inter-club competition at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.

Although they found themselves walking a tight rope, some incurable optimists among the fans of the club still hoped for a miracle in the return leg.

However, Remo Stars suffered back-to-back defeats as Sundowns won again 2-0 to progres to the group stage on a 7-1 aggregate.

After dominating proceeding right from the blast of the whistle, Nuno Santos put Sundowns ahead in the 20th minute to further compound the woes of the visitors.

A minute to the break, Mamelodi Sundowns sealed their group stage ticket with the second through Peter Shalulile well taken goal.

However, Remo Stars did everything possible to avoid another scandalous loss as they kept the hosts at bay throughout the second half of the match.

Following the elimination of Remo Stars, Nigeria now has only one club- Rivers United- remaining in the continent.

The draws for the group stage would be held on Monday, November 3.
