Remo Stars have suffered relegation from the NPFL following a 1-1 draw at Bendel Insurance on the final day of the season.

The Sky Blues’ relegation was confirmed after Kun Khalifat came from behind to claim a 3-1 win over Wikki Tourists, and drag Remo Stars back into the final relegation slot in the league.The Ikenne based club joins El Kanemi, Bayelsa United, and Wikki Tourists down to the NNL for next season.

Victor Mbaoma put Remo in the lead in the first half, but Meyiwa Oritseweyimi’s goal saw the visitors conceded deep into added time after 90 minutes to draw the match.

Remo Stars finished the season with 47 points, same as 16th-placed Kwara United. However, a worse goals difference (-5), compared to Kwara United’s (-4), confirmed Remo Stars’ exit after five consecutive years in the NPFL.

They also suffered their third relegation in the club’s history, and will slug it out in the second tier of Nigerian football next season.

Remo Stars had won their first ever NPFL title last season, but have endured a troubled campaign with fans’ violence and stadium renovations that meant the club played most of its home matches at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abeokuta.
