Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki, a Sokoto federal lawmaker who in December 2025, raised alarm over alleged discrepancies between tax laws passed by the National Assembly and the versions later gazetted for public use, has emerged as the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the new minority leadership of the House during plenary on Thursday.

Dasuki, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, was named Deputy Minority Leader alongside Frederick Agbedi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who emerged as Minority Leader.

Dasuki who previously a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the ADC.

Other appointments announced by the Speaker include Hon. Manu Soro of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Bauchi State, as Minority Whip, while Hon. George Ozodinobi returned to his position as Deputy Minority Whip after serving in an acting capacity as Minority Leader following the exit of Kingsley Chinda.

According to a letter from the caucus read by the Speaker, Agbedi, one of the most experienced lawmakers in the House, was selected by consensus to lead the opposition bloc.

Daily Trust reports that Dasuki, one of the most prominent opposition voices in the House, had in December 2025 raised a Point of Privilege over what he described as serious inconsistencies between tax reform bills passed by lawmakers and the versions subsequently gazetted.

At the time, Dasuki told the House that after reviewing the gazetted tax laws alongside the Votes and Proceedings of the House and harmonised versions adopted by both chambers of the National Assembly, he discovered discrepancies that suggested the published laws did not accurately reflect what legislators debated and approved.

“I was here, I gave my vote and it was counted and I am seeing something completely different,” he said during the plenary session of December 17, 2025.

The lawmaker argued that the matter constituted a breach of legislative procedure and constitutional provisions, warning that allowing laws different from those passed by the National Assembly to be presented to Nigerians could undermine the integrity of the legislature.

Dasuki had urged the House leadership to subject all relevant documents, including harmonised versions of the bills, Votes and Proceedings of both chambers and gazetted copies in circulation, to scrutiny by the Committee of the Whole.

Responding at the time, Speaker Abbas acknowledged the concerns raised and assured lawmakers that the House would take the necessary steps to address the issue.

While announcing the new minority leadership on Thursday, Abbas expressed confidence that the opposition principal officers would work with the leadership of the House to advance legislative business and contribute to the effective implementation of the House’s agenda.

“With this announcement, the body of principal officers of the House is now complete,” the Speaker said.
