The Member representing Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sadiq Abbas Tafida, has expressed concern over deplorable state of Federal highways in Taraba state.
He said the Namnai bridge which collapsed in September last year is yet to receive federal government attention,adding that motorists passing through the state are facing untold hardship.
Sadiq Abbas Tafida, therefore called on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to urgently repairs all the Federal highways in the state to easy movement of goods and services and also reduce rates of roads accidents which has claimed several innocent lives.
He noted that virtually all major entry points into the state are in deplorable condition and require immediate attention.
He said the Numan_ Jalingo road has been in state of disrepair for over twenty years and road apart from rate of incidents is also affecting socio_ economic development of the areas.
The law maker further stated that the Mayo Belwa_ Jalingo road is also in deplorable condition for many and there urgent need to repair the Federal highways roads leading into Taraba state.

Sadiq Tafida, He further urged FERMA to recategorize Taraba State under the North East zone in its operational structure, as opposed to the current classification under North Central.
According to him, this adjustment will enhance project monitoring, promote regional balance, and improve implementation efficiency.
The lawmaker also highlighted discrepancies in FERMA’s current regional mapping,and cited the example of Jigawa State, which geographically belongs to the North West but is erroneously listed under the North East in the agency’s organogram.
Hon. Tafida emphasized the strategic role of elected officials in guiding public institutions through constructive oversight and policy direction. He stressed that the best form of road maintenance is preventive, not reactive, and called for the introduction of weighbridges across the country to regulate vehicular axle loads on federal highways.
Drawing from global best practices, including Zambia’s example, the Federal legislator,warned that without effective weight control, Nigeria risks continuous spending on road repairs without seeing lasting improvements,.
