Chairman of the agency, Adamu Ibrahim, advised all stakeholders to support the fight against the polio virus in the country.
He explained that in the past there were a lot of misconceptions about the vaccine which led to a lot of challenges but added that such allegations need to be corrected so that Nigeria would be a polio free society.
The chairman lamented that recently there was a fresh case of polio in Yobe state, pointing out its proximity to Bauchi.
According to him, fresh cases of polio in a neighbouring state would not augur well for the state. “We stand a high risk of polio due to influx as a result of security challenges in the north east region,” he said.

He said that the media have a lot to do in terms of educating, enlightenment and awareness campaign both in rural and urban areas.
Speaking also at the workshop, the UNICEF Chief  of D field office Bauchi Dr. Abdullahi Kaikai called on media practitioners to use their medium in sensitising the public on the importance of immunization in order to eradicate  of polio virus.
He said “It is my wish and part of my primary responsibility to see that Bauchi and Nigeria is free of polio”.
