Reps angry over zero release for zonal projects in SDGs’ 2020 budget

House of Representatives

Members of the House of Representatives have expressed their displeasure over the non release of funds and execution of Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIPs) funds by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) office as contained in the 2020 budget.

The lawmakers disclosed this during the 2021 budget defence session by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Muhammadu Buhari on SDGs, Adejoke Orelope- Adefulire, before the House Committee on SDGs.

They claimed that funds were released for other projects in the budget, but there was zero releases for ZIPs.

According to the members, the projects were what their constituents would benefit as their true representatives.

They alleged that the SDGs’ office was comfortable to have executed every other project, leaving only those that directly affected the lawmakers.

According to the lawmakers, the year was fast running out, but no funds have been released to take care of the Special Intervention Projects in their zones.

The President’s aide, however, explained that it was not her fault, as she could only spend when the money is released to her agency.

The SSA assured that she would make available relevant documents to the Chairman and communicate with members on their intervention projects.
