The House of Representatives on Tuesday asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adopt new security strategies to curb the escalating security challenges in Zamfara State, where bandit groups have intensified attacks, killings, and kidnappings over the past months.
The House also urged the ministers of defence and the Service Chiefs to ensure robust security strategies and other parts of the country to end the security challenges.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion on matter of urgent public importance on the killing, kidnapping and imposition of a N100 million tax by bandits in selected wards of Tsafe Local Government Area.
The motion moved by Hon. Kabiru Ahmadu Mai-palace, highlighted a series of incidents that have left dozens dead and hundreds displaced.

According to the motion, armed bandits on motorcycles have moved through communities such as Keta, Bilbis, Kwaren Ganuwa, Danjiga, and others, killing many people, abducting 130, and demanding a N100 million tax from vulnerable residents.
The motion referenced specific attacks, including the killing of 17 people in Ruwan Dawa under Magami Ward, 14 in Toffa, and the recent murder of a former Zamfara State Special Adviser, Hon. Umar Moriki on the Gusau‑Tsafe road last Saturday.
The legislator argued that the security agencies have not provided an effective response, allowing the bandits to operate for weeks without challenge.
He expressed concern that the imposition of tax by the bandits has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the area, leaving communities without adequate food, healthcare, or security.
He called for swift action to restore safety and enable residents to resume farming and trade activities.
The House after adopting the motion, directed the committees on Defence, the Army, Navy, Air Force, National Security, and Legislative Compliance to ensure strict implementation of any measures adopted.
