Members of the House of Representatives have donated their two months’ salary amounting to N226.9m to support government effort to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

The House decision was announced by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila in a video message to Nigerians yesterday.

“We have in the House of Representatives jointly committed to contributing 100% of our salaries for the next two months to the fight against COVID-19 in Nigeria,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that at the moment, there are 358 lawmakers at the green chamber as two of the members have died.

A serving lawmaker, who spoke to our correspondent said the last salary he received was N317,000. Two months salaries of the 358 lawmakers will be N226,972,000.
