Reps demand investigation of Bayelsa fishermen’s killings

The House of Representatives Thursday urged the Federal Government to investigate the alleged mass killings, wanton destruction of property and displacement of Ilaje people in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

It also asked that relief materials be provided for those affected by the “senseless attacks and unable to continue fishing in the interim.”

The House urged the Nigerian Navy, the police and other security agencies to strengthen their presence along the coast of Brass and its environs.

These followed the adoption of a motion by Hon Kolade Victor Akinjo who recalled that on February 7, assailants attacked unarmed Ilaje fishermen on a fishing expedition in the high sea of Twon-Brass, Brass LGA, leaving many dead, several injured and others missing.
