The House of Representatives has called for a full-scale, joint clearance operation by security agencies to flush out bandits reportedly establishing operational bases in Soda Forest in Bagudo Local Government Area and Suru Hills in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion on Wednesday, sponsored by Bello A. Ka’oje, who raised concerns over the escalating attacks on security formations in the state.
Presenting the motion, Ka’oje recalled that on November 27, 2025, the Lakurawa bandit group attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) outpost at Bakin Ruwa in Bagudo LGA, killing three personnel.
He noted that the same group had earlier attacked a Nigeria Customs Service outpost at Maje on November 10, killing one officer, while another attack on a police outpost on October 19 claimed the life of a police officer.
He warned that the pattern of attacks suggests attempts by the criminals to establish permanent bases in Soda Forest and Suru Hills, from where they allegedly launch kidnappings and other violent activities across Kebbi North.
Describing the worsening situation as alarming, Ka’oje said Kebbi, previously considered one of the more peaceful states in the country, now faces the threat of widespread banditry unless swift action is taken.
The House observed a minute of silence in honour of the slain Immigration, Customs and Police personnel. It then urged the Nigerian Air Force, Army, Police and other security and intelligence agencies to immediately conduct clearance operations across identified hideouts to prevent the establishment of bandit camps.
Lawmakers also called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to strengthen intelligence sharing and enhance monitoring along the Nigeria–Benin Republic corridor, given Bagudo’s proximity to the border.
The House commended federal and state authorities, security agencies, vigilante groups, traditional rulers and community stakeholders for the successful rescue of 24 schoolgirls earlier abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu LGA.
It further urged the Federal Government to compensate the families of all security personnel killed in the recent attacks.
The House Committees on Air Force, Army, Defence, Police Affairs, National Security and Intelligence, Interior, Customs and Legislative Compliance were mandated to ensure full implementation of the resolutions.
