The House of Representatives on Monday passed a bill extending the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act from June 30 to September 30, 2026.
The bill, sponsored by the House Leader, Hon. Julius Ihonvbere, seeks to amend the Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) Act, 2025 to allow ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) additional time to execute ongoing capital projects.
The proposed legislation was listed for consideration during Monday’s plenary and was subsequently considered by the Committee of Supply.
Following the presentation of the committee’s report, the House adopted it as a working document and proceeded to the third reading of the bill.

The Clerk of the House thereafter read the bill for the third time, after which Speaker Abbas Tajudeen announced its passage.
The extension is expected to boost capital budget implementation and facilitate the completion of projects captured in the 2025 budget.
The House is expected to transmit the bill to the Senate for concurrence before it is forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assent.
