Reps probe duplication of MDAs’ functions

House of Representatives

The House of Representatives Wednesday inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to investigate duplications of functions of ministries, departments and agencies with a view to cutting costs and ensuring efficient service delivery.

The committee would streamline, merge and if need be, scrap some MDAs.

The chairman of the committee, Victor Mela, said the overlap and duplication of functions by MDAs had led to policy incoherence, inefficiency, redundancy and inter-agency conflicts.

According to him, the consequences of inter-agency rivalry are multifaceted and have far-reaching implications on national security.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, who inaugurated the committee, said the panel would establish areas of mergers, synergies and justification for the existence of some of the MDAs.

Also speaking, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee, Victor Mela, said their duty is to streamline, merge and if need be, scrap some of the MDAs in order to bring about efficiency.

He said the overlap and duplication of functions by MDAs have led to policy incoherence, breeds inefficiency and redundancy as well as inter-agency conflicts.

Mela said the consequences of inter-agency rivalry are multifaceted and have far-reaching implications on national security.
